Noise Trade is a great site for artists. It’s a site that understands the idea that for new artists to succeed, people have to hear their music - even if it’s out there for free.
Summary:
Noise Trade is based on the idea that fans spreading music is just as valuable artists selling their music. There are two ways to get an artists’ album from the site – tell three friends about the band in order to earn a free download or pay any price over $1 for the album. Both methods are beneficial for bands because they either get more fans, or they get money for their art.

Pros:
Music can be downloaded for free by referring three friends to the artist’s album
Before you can download a song, you have to give three emails
These people get an email referring them to Noise Trade

Person gets the positive feel of showing their friends new music and helping a band spread and succeed
If someone doesn’t want to recommend the album, they can pay anything over a $1 for it
Great business idea for bands because to reach fame the most important thing is to get people to hear the music
People are more willing to listen to new music for free than pay $10 for a CD of the same artist
Good model for bands to show them that eating the cost of albums is worth it in the long run

DRM free music that is easy to share
Sharing is even encouraged

Embeddable player is very easy to post on blog
Can do all the same activity from the widget as you can do from the actual website

Such an easy site to use with limited things to do
Very easy to understand

90% of sales go to artist
Artist gets all the contact information from the people that download the album
Downloading the full album gets people to listen and hear more than one song from an artist

Cons:
Not very many artists right now
Can only listen to 30 seconds of a song before getting the album
Can’t get information about the artist except the genre
Bio
Contact info
Band members
